Wheelset Diagnostics Systems

HEGENSCHEIDT ARGUS®TRAM - Wheelset diagnostics for streetcars and metro vehicles

ARGUS wheelset diagnostics systems from HEGENSCHEIDT include automatic monitoring of wheelsets in drive-through operation using modern, economical measuring methods and documentation in a database. The system makes it possible to monitor the ever tighter tolerances and operating limits required for increasing speeds and improving safety, ride comfort and operational reliability. The modular design of the ARGUS wheelset diagnostics system allows economical adaptation to the customer's measurement requirements.

Application and use

ARGUS®Tram is a stationary wheelset diagnostics system for wheels of rail vehicles on the track, which was specially developed for streetcars and metro vehicles. The system measures the wheelsets in through-track operation at speeds of up to 20 km/h. It is designed for both workshop and outdoor use.

The TRAM system is designed to be easily installed in an elevated maintenance aisle. This allows the operator to quickly measure the wheels of his vehicles as they enter and exit the maintenance bay in the shortest possible time. A special short rail is installed above the steel trough to allow the sensors to detect the profile.

Added value

  • Automatic wheelset inspection in through-track operation
  • Non-contact measuring principle
  • Calibration interval > 1 year
  • Interface to the HEGENSCHEIDT wheelset reprofiling machine
  • Interface to the  HEGENSCHEIDT TWM wheelset management system

Function

Upon entering the measurement section, vehicles are automatically identified and the wheels are measured simultaneously at multiple points using the light-section method. The curvature of the wheel is recorded at the level of the measuring circle. In addition to the profile contours, the distance between the wheel discs in the wheelset is determined, so that relevant variables such as toe and guide dimensions are also recorded.

When measuring the wheel profile, the entire contour is recorded. This makes it possible to adjust the measured values to the customer's requirements.
