History

A century-long success story

The company was founded in 1889 by Wilhelm Hegenscheidt in Ratibor (former Upper Silesia). In addition to the manufacture of iron products, the company began to develop and manufacture machine tools. In particular, the company specialized in wheelset lathes for the railway industry.  

The world's first wheelset lathe

Hegenscheidt GmbH was founded in 1889 as a manufacturer of construction fittings. After its initial successes, the company developed special machine tools and delivered the first wheelset lathe for reprofiling locomotive wheelsets in 1920.

Foundation of W. Hegenscheidt GmbH

Takeover of Maschinenfabrik Deutschland by Hoesch AG

and construction of the first wheelset lathe

1950

Introduction of deep rolling and roller burnishing technology

in the automotive industry and start of production of crankshaft machining centers at the Erkelenz site

Foundation of the first subsidiary in the USA

with the Hegenscheidt Corporation in Sterling Heights

1995

Merger

of the companies Hegenscheidt GmbH and Hoesch-MFD into today's HEGENSCHEIDT-MFD GmbH at the site in Erkelenz
