RAILPOOL sets new standards: Europe's most modern electric locomotive workshop with HEGENSCHEIDT technology opened
Opening of the new workshop
The RAILPOOL Group, a leading provider of rail vehicle rental services in Europe, has opened a state-of-the-art workshop for electric locomotives in Hamburg Billbrook. Dr. Anjes Tjarks, Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, was present at the inauguration. The workshop, operated by RAILPOOL Lokservice GmbH & Co. KG, is the most advanced of its kind in Europe.
Investment and role in rail freight transport
Over 20 million euros were invested in the major project. The new workshop will further strengthen Hamburg's central role in rail freight transport. RAILPOOL Lokservice is currently the only private company in Hamburg that maintains electric locomotives.
Technical equipment and design
The workshop is designed to handle up to seven locomotives simultaneously and offers a comprehensive range of services, from operational maintenance work to extensive overhauls. It is characterized by its energy-efficient design, including a green roof, photovoltaic system and connection to the city's district heating network.
Contribution to the mobility transition and sustainability
Senator Tjarks praised the workshop as a significant contribution to the mobility turnaround, which further consolidates Hamburg's role as a rail freight hub. The construction time was a record-breaking 14 months. To round off the sustainability goals, the electrification of the section of track to the workshop is being planned.
